To Host Celebration in Song Festival

Five New England Children’s Choirs to Perform under Direction

of Guest Conductor Charles Bruffy on May 23

Springfield, MA –More than 150 children, representing choral groups from

Massachusetts and Connecticut, will perform in concert under the direction of

Grammy award-winning conductor Charles Bruffy on Saturday, May 23 at

3:00p.m. The free event will be held at historic Court Square in downtown

Springfield. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to

Tower Square, 1500 Main Street, on the street level. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno

will serve as MC for the event. Guest speakers include State Representatives

Jose Tosado and Carlos Gonzalez.

CELEBRATION

2015

According to Carreras, “ This is an opportunity for the City of Springfield

to witness the power of choral music in its midst.” Young people will be

traveling to Springfield for an all-day choral clinic, followed by the 3:00 p.m.

concert. The children will have the opportunity to work with a number of

outstanding college and university faculty members including:

Julius P. Williams, Berklee College of Music

Dr. Wendy K. Moy, Connecticut College

Dr. Carolina Flores, Manchester Community College

Dr. Jamie Spillane, UConn

Dr. Amelia Nagoski, Western New England University

According to Katie Stebbins, Children’s Chorus of Springfield board

president, “This is a huge undertaking for any one organization. We are

indebited to a number of generous donors including: The Lewis-Sebring

Family Foundation, MassMutual, UMass Center at Springfield, Health New

England, Springfield Cultural Council, PeoplesBank, Puerto Rican Cultural
